Island upgrades on SkyBlock
Your SkyBlock island starts small and slow, and you spend coins to make it bigger and faster. There are eight upgrades, each with four levels, and level 4 is the top of every one of them.
Upgrades are bought from the Island Upgrades menu with money you have earned — see
Playing on ChoiceCraft for how the SkyBlock economy
works and Free items and fair play for /sell,
/shop, and /market. Nothing here can be bought with real money, and staff do
not hand out upgrades.
Prices can change. If the Island Upgrades menu in game disagrees with this page, the menu is right and this page is out of date — tell a staff member so it gets corrected.
What does each upgrade cost?
Each price is the cost to move from the level before it to the level named. Level 1 is where every island starts and costs nothing, so the first purchase in any row is the Level 2 price.
| Upgrade | Level 2 | Level 3 | Level 4 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Generator Boost | $15,000 | $50,000 | $100,000 |
| Border Size | $30,000 | $80,000 | $150,000 |
| Crop Growth | $100,000 | $500,000 | $1,000,000 |
| Members Size | $100,000 | $300,000 | $500,000 |
| Spawner Boost | $500,000 | $1,000,000 | $2,500,000 |
| Premium Drops | $1,000,000 | $2,000,000 | $5,000,000 |
| Hopper Increase | $1,000,000 | $3,000,000 | $9,000,000 |
| Minecart Increase | $1,000,000 | $3,000,000 | $9,000,000 |
Taking a single upgrade all the way from level 1 to level 4 costs the sum of its three prices — so Generator Boost is $165,000 for the full run, and Hopper Increase is $13,000,000.
What does each upgrade actually do?
| Upgrade | Level 1 | Level 2 | Level 3 | Level 4 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hopper Increase | 8 hoppers | 16 | 32 | 64 |
| Minecart Increase | 8 minecarts | 16 | 32 | 64 |
| Border Size | 25 blocks | 50 | 75 | 125 |
| Members Size | 4 members | 8 | 12 | 16 |
| Spawner Boost | normal rate | ×2 | ×3 | ×4 |
| Premium Drops | normal drops | ×2 | ×3 | ×4 |
| Crop Growth | normal growth | faster | faster still | fastest |
| Generator Boost | mostly stone | better ore odds | better again | best |
Generator Boost changes what your cobblestone generator produces: at level 1 it is overwhelmingly stone with a little coal, and each level shifts the odds further towards worthwhile ore. It is the cheapest upgrade on the island and it pays for itself, which is why most players buy it first.
Which upgrade should I buy first?
Nobody can tell you the right order for your island, but the arithmetic is worth knowing:
- Generator Boost is the cheapest thing on the list at $15,000, and it improves the rate you earn everything else. Starting anywhere else costs you the compounding.
- Border Size is the next cheapest and is what stops you running out of room.
- Hopper Increase and Minecart Increase are the two most expensive rows, at $13,000,000 each for the full run. They matter enormously for automation and almost nothing before you have something to automate.
- Members Size only matters if people are actually joining your island. Buying space for members you do not have is buying nothing.
Can I skip a level?
No. Upgrades go one level at a time, and each purchase costs the price of the next level up. There is no way to pay $9,000,000 and jump Hopper Increase from level 1 to level 4 — you pay $1,000,000, then $3,000,000, then $9,000,000, for $13,000,000 in total.
Who on my island can buy upgrades?
Only the island leader. If you are a member rather than the leader, the purchase will not go through no matter how much money you personally have.
Is level 4 really the maximum?
Yes, for every upgrade. Once a row reaches level 4 the game tells you that you have reached the maximum, and there is nothing further to buy in that row. An island at level 4 across all eight upgrades has bought everything there is.
Do upgrades carry across servers or resets?
Upgrades belong to the island, on SkyBlock, and they do not exist on Survival — the two servers keep separate worlds, inventories, and economies. See Playing on ChoiceCraft.
For what happens to an island during maintenance or a reset, see Server resets and maintenance.
